When do the rules of the Nine Days end?

All the laws of the Nine Days (and the Three Weeks) are in effect until halachic midday of the day after Tishah B'Av, the 10th of Av.


This is because The Holy Temple was set on fire on the afternoon of the 9th of Av, and the majority of it was actually destroyed on the 10th.1 Therefore, the laws of the Nine Days extend until midday of the 10th of Av.

  • 1. Some Sages of the Talmud actually fasted thru the 10th of Av, or at least until the morning of the 10th.

The fifth month of the Jewish calendar, normally corresponding to July-August. The saddest month of the year due to the destruction of the Temples, and the many other tragedies which befell the Jews in this month.

1. Usually a reference to the Holy Temple which was/will be situated in Jerusalem. 1st Temple was built in 825 BCE and was destroyed in 423 BCE. The 2nd Temple was built in 350 BCE and was destroyed in 70 CE. The 3rd Temple will be built by the Messiah. 2. A synagogue.
