What does 'Oneg Shabbat' mean?

What is 'Oneg Shabbat'/

Answer:

Oneg Shabbat1 literaly means 'Pleasure of Shabbat' - i.e. it is a Mitzvah to enjoy Shabbat through eating special meals, dressing up in fine clothes and more. Please see What is Shabbat and how can I practice it?


'Oneg Shabbat' has also come to mean 1. A small repast after Shabbat synagogue services 2. A children's party in honor of Shabbat.

Mitzvah
(pl. Mitzvot). A commandment from G-d. Mitzvah also means a connection, for a Jew connects with G–d through fulfilling His commandments.
Shabbat
(pl: Shabbatot). Hebrew word meaning "rest." It is a Biblical commandment to sanctify and rest on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. This commemorates the fact that after creating the world in six days, G-d rested on the seventh.
