Itamar was the youngest son of Aaron the High Priest (Exodus 6:23). After his two eldest brothers Nadav and Avihu passed away, he served as a priest along with his older brother, Elazar, who served as High Priest (Numbers 20:28).

During the travels of the Israelites in the desert, he stood at the head of the children of Gershom and Merari, the carriers of the Tabernacle (Numbers 4:28).

He was also in charge of the work of the Levites in general (Exodus 38:21).

ITAMAR

Posted by: TAMARA ANN SANTEE (DZANANOVIC'), PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA on Dec 12, 2006

Cool! I have named my younger son Timothy Itamar, sort of a "Junior" thing after me. I like the uniqueness yet with special meaning that Itamar offers. It is probably very common in Israel, but not so here in the United States of America. I am not officially Jewish, but my heart is!
