Is it possible that Jews originally did not believe in afterlife?

In ancient Egypt, where the Jewish nation was born, this belief was central to every aspect of daily life. If the Jewish people were to dissent from the normative view, it would have to be stated in very strong terms, even stronger than the terms with which they dissented from idolatry and pantheism.
