What is the exact procedure for making a brachah on a food?

Hold the food in your hand, recite the blessing, and immediately take a bite or a sip. It is not proper to speak or make any other interruption before finishing the first bite or sip. As your grandma would say, "Chew before you speak..."

While reciting a brachah you should be concentrating on what you are saying.


The after-brachah should be recited as soon as you finish eating, and should be recited while sitting.
