On a superficial level, these two pieces of advice seem to be contradictory; but when you go a bit deeper you will realize that they go very nicely hand-in hand.

Your therapist is telling you to spend more time focusing on yourself and your needs. Your rabbi, and the Torah, agrees with that idea.

The truth is that only by being truly selfless do you realize your true self-worth!
However, the question is why should you devote all this time and energy to yourself? This is where your rabbi comes in to the picture.

You are special because you have a G-dly mission to accomplish. You must take care of yourself because only with a healthy body and mind can a person maximize his/her potential of serving G-d.

So the truth is that only by being truly selfless do you realize your true self-worth!

Torah
Torah is G–d’s teaching to man. In general terms, we refer to the Five Books of Moses as “The Torah.” But in truth, all Jewish beliefs and laws are part of the Torah.
G-d
It is forbidden to erase or deface the name of G-d. It is therefore customary to insert a dash in middle of G-d's name, allowing us to erase or discard the paper it is written on if necessary.
