Is religion a crutch?

Question: Some people say that religion is an emotional crutch, and that people are only religious if they need it to compensate for something - what do you say? thanks :) CB

Answer: Maybe that is true for some people, yet for some people food is a crutch, or love, or familly - does that mean that the only value of family is being a crutch - and serves no other purpose?

Same with religion, it may serve as a crutch for some - but that doesn't take away from its inherent good for everybody!
