Rabbi Shlomo: Welcome. I'll be with you in a moment...what's on your mind?

holly4: is a cloned animal kosher, and does it have a soul?

Rabbi Shlomo: Are you familiar how an animal is cloned?

holly4: no

holly4: somehow it is a genetic double , but dont know how it is done

Rabbi Shlomo: ok - this is not the place to get into a scientific explanation how it is done, but at the end of the day a clonded animal is also born from a mother like any other animal - and since it is born from a Kosher animal, it is indeed kosher1

holly4: ok

holly4: then does it have a soul, does the original have a soul

Rabbi Shlomo: yes - in order for it to live it needs a soul.

holly4: ok, so to summarize , a kosher cloned animal is eatible

Rabbi Shlomo: A clone is merely that instead of impregnating the female with a male, scientists take DNA from the original animal and put that in a womb for the natural birth process

holly4: good , never knew taht. so it is kosher for eating

Rabbi Shlomo: yes

holly4: wow, so i guess it will be done with humans someday. how do i get a printout of this. And thank you

Rabbi Shlomo: when you press the quit button you will be offered to have this emailed to you

holly4: thanks you, bye Rabbi

Rabbi Shlomo: my pleasure

holly4: the close button you mean

Rabbi Shlomo: yes
