Most dried fruit do not present an insect problem provided that they are stored and handled properly, with the following exceptions:

  • Bananas are often fried in oil.
  • Cherries can be infused with flavoring and coloring agents.
  • Cranberries can be infused with flavorings and coloring agents (with the exception of craisins).
  • Mangos can be infused with colorings agents and treated with moisture barrier.
  • Papayas can be infused with colorings and flavoring agents and treated with moisture barrier.
  • Raisins from non-domestic sources can be coated with oil.

Please note: any dried fruit stored for lengthy periods of time should be carefully examined for signs of infestation prior to use.
