Everyone should stand during the Brit Milah, except for the Sandek who sits and holds the baby on his lap during the time of the Brit.

At the appropriate point in the ceremony (after the father recites the blessing), the congregation blesses the child and says, "Just as he has entered into the covenant, so too may he enter into Torah, into marriage and into good deeds."

Torah
Torah is G–d’s teaching to man. In general terms, we refer to the Five Books of Moses as “The Torah.” But in truth, all Jewish beliefs and laws are part of the Torah.
Brit
[Lit. Covenant] Circumcision. The act of removing ones foreskin 8 days after birth, perpetuating a covenant with G-d originally established by the Patriarch Abraham.
Sandek
The one honored with holding the baby during the circumcision.
