G-d's name is comprised of four letters Y-H-V-H. This specific name of G-d supplies life and energy to all of creation, and therefore all of creation is divided into four categories.

For example:
1. There are four primary spiritual worlds: Emanation, Creation, Formation and Action.

2. This physical world contains four types of creations: Mineral, Vegetable, Animal and Man.

3. The divine attributes (the building blocks of creation) are subdivided into four categories: 1) Wisdom 2) Understanding 3) Kindness, Severity, Harmony, Perseverance, Splendor, and Attachment 4) Royalty.
[To properly understand the abovementioned concepts it would be necessary to join a class on chassidus (Jewish mysticism-philosophy).]

On Passover we attempt to liberate ourselves from all worldly limitations which are symbolized by the number four.

Passover
A Biblically mandated early-spring festival celebrating the Jewish exodus from Egypt in the year 1312 BCE.
G-d
It is forbidden to erase or deface the name of G-d. It is therefore customary to insert a dash in middle of G-d's name, allowing us to erase or discard the paper it is written on if necessary.
